The Iron Horse Campus Relay
To honor Lou Gehrig and to continue the fight against ALS, Iron Phi is excited to introduce the Iron Horse Campus Relay, a virtual relay and philanthropic concept that relay that can be hosted by Phi Delta Theta chapters, no matter if classes are online or in-person.
Participating Phi Delt chapters can claim one day to host their relay. Participants on the chapter's roster will collectively complete 81 miles (representing 81 years since Lou Gehrig's Luckiest Man speech) on the day their chapter claims. The 81 miles can be completed from anywhere in the world by walking, running, biking, swimming or any other activity that participants consider athletic.
There is no fee to participate, but we hope that your chapter's participants will consider contributing or fundraising for Iron Phi in conjunction with their mileage. Iron Phi is a program of the LiveLikeLou Foundation, a national non-profit organization devoted to the cause of Lou Gehrig's disease.
Sign up your chapter and join us in hosting a campus relay for a great cause. Help us Leave ALS Better Than We Found It.
Step 1: Claim your chapter's relay date
Visit the Google Sheet below to claim your chapter's relay date. Date options span from September 23 - December 31 and your chapter does not have to be on campus on the day that you select. On the day of your relay, your chapter's participants will be responsible for collectively covering 81 miles from anywhere in the world.
Step 2: Fill your roster!
At the Google Sheet above, click on the link for your relay date and begin to fill your roster with individuals who will work together to cover 81 miles that day from anywhere in the world. We encourage you to fill your roster with both Phi Delts and non-Phi Delts. All are welcome to join your team!
Step 3: Consider raising funds or donating
It is our goal to have participants raise funds or donate to Iron Phi in conjunction with their relay participation. If you have already registered for Iron Phi, simply raise funds through your fundraising page. If you have not registered to become an Iron Phi and would like to raise funds, we recommend that you do this and setup your fundraising page. If you'd rather just make a simple donation for your leg(s), you can do that here.
Step 4: Complete your mileage and spread the word!
On the day that your chapter is hosting its relay, participants should complete their mileage, take a picture/video along the way, and tag us on social media with @ironphi. We'll share your success! Participants should go back into the Google sheet to mark their mileage as complete.
