My Iron Phi Story

Almost everyone can look back on their college years with fond memories, myself included. For me, this was largely due to my time as an active member of Phi Delta Theta, which helped mold me into the man I am today. Through the Fraternity, I had the opportunity to work with organizations like The ALS Association. These experiences showed me the importance of giving back and making an impact in the lives of others.
Now a few years removed from being a college student and member of the active chapter, I find myself looking for a way to continue supporting these two organizations for which I have such a great deal of admiration. And so, I am returning to my journey to become an Iron Phi! This is a distinction given to a small percentage of members within the Fraternity.
According to The ALS Association's website, approximately 5,600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each year. It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death.
Lou Gehrig was a member of Phi Delta Theta, explaining why the organization has taken an active role in finding a cure. Through my work with the Fraternity, and various encounters in my professional life, I have seen just how devastating this disease can be to not only an individual, but his or her loved ones. This is why I want to help make a difference.
To join the elite class of Iron Phis, an individual must raise money for a worthy cause, and complete a challenging physical endeavor. For my challenge, I plan on completing a 37 Kilometer Endurance Run, which is just shy of 17 miles. Lou Gehrig was only 37 years old when he lost his battle with this disease, and I feel like this is a great way to honor him and all of those fighting ALS!
Not only am I excited to raise money for The ALS Association and support those in need, I am excited to tackle this journey with the help of my friends and family. I know that together, we can all accomplish something extraordinary. I hope that you'll share this incredible adventure with me - by supporting me in my fundraising efforts.

How Does My Donation Make a Difference?
Your donation towards an Iron Phi athlete equally supports two very important things: Supporting ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) through research and support of ALS families and leadership development for undergraduate members of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
At the end of each year calendar year, the LiveLikeLou Foundation grants dollars raised through Iron Phi to fund its initiatives that support ALS research, scholarships to support the higher education goals of ALS dependents, and summer camp experiences for children who have a parent or grandparent with ALS.
Dollars used for undergraduate leadership development have and continue to help Phi Delta Theta educate more of its undergraduate members as they work to “Become the Greatest Version of Themselves.”
