My Iron Phi Story
Walk Around The (Disney) World!
Hello there,
My name is Bob Sico and I'm the Vice President of Phi Delta Theta, NJ Epislon at Montclair State University. After beginning my journey as a Phi in Spring of 2020, I was captivated by the passion and dedication of my brothers in our fight against ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Following the hundreds of buckets of ice poured out on the heads of my brothers, I have been inspired to become an Iron Phi - a mission devoted to strengthening the impact Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity has on discovering a cure for ALS.
My brothers have spent weeks preparing the Live Like PaLOUza, a philanthropic event with live performances, interactive games, and raffle prizes. At Homecoming, our table and tent were devoted to raising donations by icing our brothers in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. I am proud to share that the net proceeds my brothers have raised will support ALS research, education, screening and treatment. Now, it's my turn to make a difference.
ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, reaching the muscles throughout the body. Yet, ALS doesn't have to be a death sentence. A lack of funding and attention has brought devastation to approximately 5,600 familes in the U.S. each year. That's why I'm becoming an Iron Phi, to do something bold about Lou Gehrig's disease.
This Spring, I will have to step away from Phi Delta Theta NJ Epislon and Montclair State University as I pursue a professional internship with Disney under the Disney College Program. As a filmmaker, this is a dream come true, and I'm excited to begin my professional career journey at Disney. But I want to challenge myself, and before I leave, I want to become an Iron Phi. I've set my personal goal to raise $1,000 for ALS and have pledged to walk around all 4 parks at Walt Disney World® Resort in a single day.
Between the Magic Kindom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom, walking the perimeter of all 4 Disney parks at Walt Disney World® Resort equals to 8.51 miles, or 13.69 kilometers. I need your help to reach my goal of $1,000 to put towards ALS research, education, screening and treatment. How Does My Donation Make a Difference?
Your donation towards an Iron Phi athlete equally supports two very important things: Supporting ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) through research and support of ALS families and leadership development for undergraduate members of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
At the end of each year calendar year, the LiveLikeLou Foundation grants dollars raised through Iron Phi to fund its initiatives that support ALS research, scholarships to support the higher education goals of ALS dependents, and summer camp experiences for children who have a parent or grandparent with ALS.
Dollars used for undergraduate leadership development have and continue to help Phi Delta Theta educate more of its undergraduate members as they work to “Become the Greatest Version of Themselves.”
