Golfing for a Cause: 4 Rounds of Golf in One Day for ALS
My name is Ben Schroeder, and this year, I am taking on a challenge to raise funds and awareness for ALS research by completing four rounds of golf (72 holes) in a single day alongside my friend, Cole Bubalo.
This effort is in support of the Live Like Lou Foundation, an organization dedicated to fighting Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS) through research, education, and support for affected families. As a member of Phi Delta Theta, I am inspired by our fraternity’s commitment to honoring Lou Gehrig’s legacy and making a real impact in the fight against ALS.
We chose to play four rounds of golf in honor of Lou Gehrig’s iconic number 4, which he wore throughout his legendary career with the New York Yankees. Just as Lou Gehrig embodied resilience and perseverance, we are pushing ourselves to complete this challenge to raise awareness and funds for the fight against ALS.
Each year, approximately 5,600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Over time, ALS takes away the ability to move, speak, and eventually breathe. There is no cure—yet. That’s why I’m taking on this challenge—to do something bold and meaningful in the fight against this disease.
I have set a personal fundraising goal of $5,000 (with a hope to raise more), and I need your help to reach it. Please consider making a donation—every contribution, big or small, makes a difference. U.S. residents can receive a tax deduction for their donations.

How Does My Donation Make a Difference?
Your donation towards an Iron Phi athlete equally supports two very important things: Supporting ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) through research and support of ALS families and leadership development for undergraduate members of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
At the end of each year calendar year, the LiveLikeLou Foundation grants dollars raised through Iron Phi to fund its initiatives that support ALS research, scholarships to support the higher education goals of ALS dependents, and summer camp experiences for children who have a parent or grandparent with ALS.
Dollars used for undergraduate leadership development have and continue to help Phi Delta Theta educate more of its undergraduate members as they work to “Become the Greatest Version of Themselves.”
