The ALS 30 Hour Hustle: 30 Miles in 30 Hours

Dear friends and family,

This past winter I began committing myself to the Phi Delta Theta Chapter at LMU. It has been a great experience so far for me and I have enjoyed getting to know a new community at LMU as well as being a part of an organization that embraces the values of brothership, leadership and philanthropy.

As a former cross country and track athlete at LMU, I want to use my skill set to raise awareness and money. This spring, I'll be attempting to become an Iron Phi - a distinction given to a small percentage of members within the Fraternity. The mission of Iron Phi is to strengthen the Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity and the impact it has on the fight against Lou Gehrig's disease through the fundraising and athletic efforts of its members. Lou Gehrig was a member of Phi Delta Theta, and our organization has taken an active role in finding a cure.

My Event: 30 Miles in 30 Hours

To achieve my goal of becoming Iron Phi, I am going to run 1 mile every hour for 30 miles: 30 miles in 30 hours! This will take place on March 23 at 9am-March 24th at 3pm/ PLEASE COME JOIN ME FOR A MILE OR MORE IF YOU CAN. At the top of each hour, I will toe the start line and run a mile. Some miles might take by 7 while other take longer, but I will be ready at the top of the next hour to run another mile. We will have a camp set up on Sunken Garden and the mile loops will be run on campus. I have set my personal donation goal at $2,500 and I will need your help to reach it! Your generous donation will directly support ALS as well as strengthen Phi Delta Theta’s impact. By supporting my fundraising efforts, you are joining me in the fight against ALS.  

This is a list of donations that make the 30 in 30 challenge harder. Each challenge applies to an individual mile. When you make the donations please add in the comments what task you want Cy to do.

$10 - 10 pushups
$10 - Shoes untied
$30 - Have a dribble a basketball
$40 - For one hour you get to choose song of choice
$50 - Choose someone to run a mile
$50 - Run it Backwards
$60 - Slides
$75 - Weighted mile
$120 - Sub six minute mile
$150 - Blindfolded
$200 - Ski boots mile
$250 - Core circuit/workout for whole rest period of an hour
$500 - Krispy Kreme Dozen
$750 - Chug a gallon of Milk
$1,000 - Fountain Mile (amount of laps to equal mile in the Foley Fountain)
$5,000 - Will stand for entire 30 hours (no sitting)

Why This Cause Matters to Me

The net proceeds will support ALS, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Lou Gehrig's disease, research, education, screening and treatment. This disease affects approximately 20,000 and 30,000 people living within the US. It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Further, my grandmother had a progressive neurodegenerative disease that she passed away from and so I am motivated and passionate about becoming an Iron Phi, to help and do something about neurodegenerative diseases, specifically ALS.
