My Iron Phi Story
Welcome to My Personal Iron Phi Page
This past January (1/16/11) I had the honor of becoming an Iron Phi by running in the PF Chang's Half Marathon. Another honor was becoming the first Iron Phi from my chapter Arizona Gamma. You talk about leaving your mark on things that mean the most to you, what better way to leave behind a legacy like that and be an inspiration for the Iron Phis to follow from Arizona Gamma.
Running the race for ALS was one of the best feelings ever! This feeling got me thinking, "why stop here?" with the love and support of my friends and family I was able to become the fourth fundraiser of all time, but I think the sky is the limit. My goal is to keep racing and keep raising money for ALS.
According to The ALS Association's web site, approximately 5,600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each year. It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. That's why I'm continuing the effort of Iron phi because I want to make an impact on Lou Gehrig's disease.
This summer on July 17 2011 I will be competing in the Mountain Man Triathlon in Flagstaff Arizona. I competed in the race last summer and loved it. This year I have inspired one of my fellow Arizona Gamma Brothers Clay King to pursue the Iron Phi distinction and compete in the race with me this summer as well. My dad will also be competing in the race with us.
I've set my new personal goal at $5000.00, and I wont stop racing if we keep raising money! So I need your help. How Does My Donation Make a Difference?
Your donation towards an Iron Phi athlete equally supports two very important things: Supporting ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) through research and support of ALS families and leadership development for undergraduate members of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
At the end of each year calendar year, the LiveLikeLou Foundation grants dollars raised through Iron Phi to fund its initiatives that support ALS research, scholarships to support the higher education goals of ALS dependents, and summer camp experiences for children who have a parent or grandparent with ALS.
Dollars used for undergraduate leadership development have and continue to help Phi Delta Theta educate more of its undergraduate members as they work to “Become the Greatest Version of Themselves.”
