We Do It For Lou

I am excited to share with you my goal to become an Iron Phi which is a distinction given to a small percentage of members within my Fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. The mission of Iron Phi is to strengthen the Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity and the impact it has on the fight against Lou Gehrig's disease through fundraising and athletic efforts of its Members. Lou Gehrig was a member of Phi Delta Theta, and our organization has taken an active role in fundraising efforts to find a cure for this disease. The net proceeds you donate will support ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) research, education, screening, and treatment. Additionally, you will also support leadership development opportunities for Phi Delta Theta young men which I am hopeful will have a lasting impact in my life.

Did you know approximately 5,600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each year? It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. I want to become an Iron Phi to do something bold to support Lou Gehrig's disease research and to support for individuals and family members dealing with this disease.

Once I meet the fundraising goal of $1000 by the end of October, I will be participating in an athletic event with my Phikeia brothers to raise additional awareness.
