Our Iron Phi Story

Iron Phi

Washington Epsilon - Eastern Washington University

Welcome to the official Iron Phi page for the Washington Epsilon chapter(Eastern Washington University)!

We Phi Delts have a special saying within our organization - "We enjoy life by the help and society of others."  This is, in fact, is our open motto and explains our Chapter's desire to help others through the Iron Phi initiative.

The mission of Iron Phi is to strengthen the Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity and the impact it has on the fight against Lou Gehrig's disease through the fundraising and athletic efforts of its members.

Those of us listed below have committed to becoming Iron Phis.  We have each selected an athletic endeavor that we'd like to accomplish, will be fundraising for The ALS Association and the Phi Delta Theta Foundation during our training, and look forward to completing the athletic events that we have chosen. It won't be easy, but we know the experience will last a lifetime.

Our most recent event took place April 30th to May 2nd, 2021. our chapter, participated in a relay race from our chapters house all the way to the Wild Horses Monument above the Columbia River in Vantage, WA. Our journey in particular was 170 miles long with a majority of our active members in our chapter participating along with various alumni, we managed to raise over $8,000! In 2014, our event was an utter success for our first inaugural run as we raised $6,550. The following year, 2015, we raised $8,500. In 2017, we raised a whopping $20,993. 2021 was a hard year for our chapter but we banded together and raised almost $9,000 within our smaller than usual chapter and hit our goal of $100,000.00 all time raised for iron phi. This Fundraising total put us at the number 3 spot for fundraising among chapters that participate in Iron Phi. Spring of 2022 we are committed to winning gold in Lou's Olympics, a new event dedicated to Lou Gehrig. This relay race is not only beneficial towards Iron Phi, but it also brings us closer as brothers as we struggle together to reach our goal. We will be reaching the Iron Phi monument in Vantage, Wa again in the spring of 2022, rain or shine to hit our goal of $150,000.00 and becoming the #1 chapter in the nation in money donated towards ALS and the lou gehrig foundation.

We would encourage you to do one of two things on this page: 1) Help members of our team reach the $1,000 fundraising level by making a donation on their individual page, or 2) Join us in our journey to become Iron Phis.

Our chapter will be competing against Phis from more than 225 campuses where Phi Delta Theta Fraternity has had chapters since 1848.  You can track our progress by revisiting this page or frequenting the Iron Phi homepage for an up-to-date look at where we stand in comparison to everyone else. At the moment of this post we are 3rd in the nation with $107,000.00 donated from our chapter towards ALS.

We thank you for your support, and we appreciate your generosity in helping us achieve our goals.

How Does My Donation Make a Difference?

Your donation towards an Iron Phi athlete equally supports two very important things: Supporting ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) through research and support of ALS families and leadership development for undergraduate members of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.

At the end of each year calendar year, the LiveLikeLou Foundation grants dollars raised through Iron Phi to fund its initiatives that support ALS research, scholarships to support the higher education goals of ALS dependents, and summer camp experiences for children who have a parent or grandparent with ALS.

Dollars used for undergraduate leadership development have and continue to help Phi Delta Theta educate more of its undergraduate members as they work to “Become the Greatest Version of Themselves.”
