Eugene Marathon - May 1st
I just ran the Eugene this past weekend. It was rough for more than one reason. I broke my foot and lost 6 weeks of training and only really got about a month in before the race. More importantly, I lost the most amazing person and friend in the world - Jon Winterfeldt the week before the race and couldn't think straight. Still can't really.

But I knew that the training I had gotten in was good (crossfit style!) and that Jon would want me to do it. So I did. I figured I would roll in at 4:30 hrs at earliest, but more like well after 5 hrs. Instead, I somehow ran 9:01 min miles and came in around 3:55 hrs; which I was extremely happy with!

I have been absent for a few months now. I am back.

The Undercarriage: Improving your Suspension
The first thing to go in a race is... your muscles nope, your wind wrong again, knees probably a symptom of something else, ankles same deal, well then you ask, what is it?

From Tim Ferriss' "The Four Hour Body" I learnt that the first thing to go is the suspension, or the undercarriage to the aforementioned muscles, wind, knees or ankles. I am talking about your tendons and ligaments that connect everything together. They need working and strengthening like everything else, but never get it. Especially if you sit all day and throw them out of sync. If you have back or hip problems, the following stretches will change you. I have had hip pain since high school. My hip was really hurting over the last few months and I actually wiped out during a run in early November, because my hip slid out of socket (or something to that effect). I am 27. Shouldn't be happening. Here is what to do to change it:

1. Hip Flexor (Ilioposas) and Quad Flexibility (2 mins each side)

I have been doing these stretches every day and now have no hip pains while running. My hips feel balanced/aligned and I am faster (5:32 mile). I also never have joint pain and my knees feel great (I had five knees surgeries up until now).

Sexual Assault Awareness Month 5k
I ran the Sexual Assault Awareness Month 5k this morning and took 1st place in my age group (2nd year in a row)! Luckily, the field was only about 80 strong, otherwise that would have never happened with my pace (last year there were only like 50).
Anyways, I ran something like a 19:48 which was around what I ran in Cross Country in high school. So I was pretty pleased with it. Something like 6:36 min miles. Now if I could only stretch that out for another 23 miles...

At 75%!!!
Thanks to everyone for helping me get to 75% with that last push! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your giving. In addition, the ALS Foundation is a much stronger organization because of you and the memory of Adam Nickel lives on.
I am running the Athens, OH Marathon this coming Sunday - April 11th, 2010. I feel and know that I am ready, but as always constantly wonder if I will make it and what I have gotten myself into. I will succeed and don't worry I don't back down from anything.
Two weeks later I will be running the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati with many other Phi Delts and crazy people. Consider tossing me a few bucks in between! Every dollar matters and goes towards a great cause.

That link will take you to the profile of an insane graduate from my Masters program in 1980. This guy was the only male participant to represent the U.S. in the World Challenge Deca Iron Triathalon.

He finished the 24-mile swim, 1,120-mile bike race and 262 mile run in 13 days, 14 hours, 49 minutes and 21 seconds in 15th place out of 18 starters. He was the seventh American to ever finish this race distance, with the third fastest time.

Wow. Someday...

25% Mark (Well Almost)
You people rock! Thanks to all of my family and friends who have gotten me to the 25% mark. You are making this a reality and helping a really great cause.
