My Iron Phi Story
Doing the Distance for ALS
This year, my daughter and I are attempting to become Iron Phis - a distinction given to a small percentage of members within my Fraternity. The mission of Iron Phi is to strengthen the Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity and the impact it has on the fight against Lou Gehrig's disease through the fundraising and athletic efforts of its members. Lou Gehrig was a member of Phi Delta Theta, and our organization has taken an active role in finding a cure.
Net proceeds will support ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) research, education, screening and treatment. It will also help strengthen an organization (Phi Delta Theta) that has had a lasting impact on my life.
For every dollar donated, we will do one mile of physical activity including swimming, cycling, walking, and kayaking. Come back often to see photos of our athletic endeavors...
According to The ALS Association's web site, approximately 5,600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each year. It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. That's why we are becoming an Iron Phi. To do something bold about Lou Gehrig's disease.

Finally Reached Our Goal!!!
We are pleased to say that we've finally hit our goal, both athletically and monetarily:~) Thanks for all the support we received over the last couple of years. It was a long road, but I'm feeling much healthier and have lost 20 pounds.

Miles Accomplished!
Ashley and I have exceeded the number of miles we needed to reach our goal. We are struggling to get the last bit of money to cross over the finish line. We need your help and we need it fast. We really want to reach this goal by convention, which is just days away. Even a $10 donation, will make a huge difference.

Swimming for Miles
I'm up to 70 laps a day, which is a little more than a half mile. I've lost 20 pounds and feel great! My goal is to do 102 laps a day, which is a full mile.

Spring Break
It was a successful Spring Break in terms of Iron Phi Miles. I averaged 4 miles a day, whether it be biking, walking, or kayaking. Back to work tomorrow, but am in high gear for keeping up at least 4 miles a day.

Teamed Up!
We have now teamed up with Brother Brady Knapp in our conquest for Iron Phi. Since this week is Spring Break, we plan on putting some serious miles on the board. Check back often to see our progress!

Fantastic Weather

How Does My Donation Make a Difference?
Your donation towards an Iron Phi athlete equally supports two very important things: Supporting ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) through research and support of ALS families and leadership development for undergraduate members of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
At the end of each year calendar year, the LiveLikeLou Foundation grants dollars raised through Iron Phi to fund its initiatives that support ALS research, scholarships to support the higher education goals of ALS dependents, and summer camp experiences for children who have a parent or grandparent with ALS.
Dollars used for undergraduate leadership development have and continue to help Phi Delta Theta educate more of its undergraduate members as they work to “Become the Greatest Version of Themselves.”
