We Do It For Lou

  I'm back and asking again for your support. The Live Like Lou Foundation is a philanthropy for my national fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. It raises money for ALS research and to help families stricken by this horrible fatal disease.  It's named in honor of Lou Gehrig who was a Phi Delt at Columbia University.  To become an Iron Phi, you must achieve an athletic event and raise $ along the way.  I became an Iron Phi in 2022 when I rode 73 miles in honor of my mom who died at age 73 of ALS.  Last year I raised more money when I threw 2130 pitches at the Men's Senior Baseball World Series (2130 to match Lou Gehrig's consecutive game record ultimately broken by Cal Ripken Jr.). 

Tomorrow I leave for Arizona to again play three weeks in the World Series starting on Sunday in the 70+ National (top) division with my team, the LA Athletics.  The following week I play and manage the LA Athletics in the 65+ division and also play and co-manage the Minnesota Bandits in the 73+.  I finish that off in week three with the Rhode Island Salty Dogs in the 75+.  My Iron Phi event will be to take 340 swings over the three weeks.  340 to match Gehrig's lifetime batting average of .340.  340 swings over three weeks is not a walk in the park when on average you might take 4 swings in a game (assuming you're not striking out each at bat).  So I'll do a lot of hitting in the cage before and after each game to make sure I get those swings in and complete another Iron Phi event....and proudly claim to be the oldest Phi in the country doing this.

Help me get through the next weeks and support me anyway you can. You've all been so generous over the past two years so I'm not asking for any specific amount.  Anything you can spare and feel comfortable doing will be sincerely appreciated. And if just well wishes is all you can do, I'm OK with that as well.

Hopefully in my lifetime we'll see a cure for ALS and give hope to all affected families.
