My Iron Phi Story
Welcome to My Personal Iron Phi Page
Here's an update on my achievements as an Iron Phi and fund raising for the Live Like Lou Foundation. The Live Like Lou Foundation is a philanthropy for my national fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. It raises money for ALS research and to help families stricken by this horrible fatal disease. It's named in honor of Lou Gehrig who was a Phi Delt at Columbia University. To become an Iron Phi, you must achieve an athletic event and raise $ along the way. I became an Iron Phi in 2022 when I rode 73 miles in honor of my mom who died at age 73 of ALS. Last year I raised more money when I threw 2130 pitches at the Men's Senior Baseball World Series (2130 to match Lou Gehrig's consecutive game record ultimately broken by Cal Ripken.
In 2024 I raised more than $10,000.00 while again playing in the Men's Senior Baseball World Series in Arizona from 10/12/2024 through November 2. While managing and playing for four different teams in different age brackets, I set a goal of taking 340 swings to match Lou Gehrig's lifetime batting average. I ended up with 413 swings while also winning three championships. I came close with a 4th but my team ended up losing in the championship game. Three out of four ain't bad.
But more importantly, my friends, family, colleagues and fellow baseball players all stepped up again to support me emotionally and financially. So with all the contributions over the past three years, I am now the #1 Iron Phi fundraiser. I'm proud of my accomplishments, especially at age 76 when you consider almost all of the Iron Phi athletes are young active members of their chapters. I'm about to turn 77 and in two weeks I will again begin play in the Men's Senior Baseball World Series, defending championship titles in three age divisions. I will complete my 4th Iron Phi event by throwing 1925 pitches over the three weeks I play. 1925 pitches to signify the year Lou began his consecutive game record. And yes....I can still throw as shown in my photo as I threw out the first pitch at Dodger Stadium on 6/2/2025 on Lou Gehrig Day.
Hopefully in my lifetime we'll see a cure for ALS and give hope to all affected families.

How Does My Donation Make a Difference?
Your donation towards an Iron Phi athlete equally supports two very important things: Supporting ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) through research and support of ALS families and leadership development for undergraduate members of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
At the end of each year calendar year, the LiveLikeLou Foundation grants dollars raised through Iron Phi to fund its initiatives that support ALS research, scholarships to support the higher education goals of ALS dependents, and summer camp experiences for children who have a parent or grandparent with ALS.
Dollars used for undergraduate leadership development have and continue to help Phi Delta Theta educate more of its undergraduate members as they work to “Become the Greatest Version of Themselves.”
