Dear friends and family,

This year, I'll be attempting to become an Iron Phi - a distinction given to a small percentage of members within my Fraternity. The mission of Iron Phi is to strengthen the Phi Delta Theta International Fraternity and the impact it has on the fight against Lou Gehrig's disease through the fundraising and athletic efforts of its members. Lou Gehrig was a member of Phi Delta Theta, and our organization has taken an active role in finding a cure.

The net proceeds will support ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) research, education, screening and treatment. It will also help strengthen an organization (Phi Delta Theta) that has had a lasting impact on my life.

In January I will attempt my first full marathon at the 2011 ING Miami Marathon. I have begun my training and hope you will come along for the ride. I am planning a series of 5Ks, 10Ks (including Atlanta's Peachtree Road Race, the world?s largest 10k), and a couple of Half-Marathons along the way. If you would like to know more information about the ING Miami Marathon please go to www.ingmiamimarathon.com. I will post weekly, if not daily, updates of my training on Facebook along with pictures from races and total miles run. Any help that you may offer will be greatly appreciated.

I made it to the finish line!
I want to thank everyone for their support for such a great cause and helping me reach both of my goals. My wife and I completed the 26.2 mile marathon course at the ING Miami Marathon on January 30th, 2011! The race was enjoyable, life changing, and difficult! we finished in 5:49:44. This was a bit slower than we were hoping for, but with warmer weather than we have had in Atlanta, going from sub 30s to mid 70s was a change. This will not be my last marathon! I am looking for another race later this year!
I am running the Birmingham half marathon with a number of my fraternity brothers on February 13th!
